June 25, 2011: Hannah in Bullett Magazine

So long, MTV version of Skins… The audience has spoken. The latest MTV show to get the boot is based off of the very popular and controversial UK teen drama, surrounding young adults juggling life’s problems— family, friends, sex, and drugs. Despite having the show’s original creator on board [Brian Elsley], the storylines and cast chemistry just didn’t translate and couldn’t compete. Plus, it was just TOO controversial for America. We just think the UK got it right the first time. We asked our featured Skin’s UK cast members to weigh in on U.S. Remake.

Why do you think Skins U.S remake’s debut was so controversial?

I always felt Skins was a quite distinctly British show, and I think that was why it did really well to begin with. All we had on TV before Skins for teenage shows was just like American imports and it was important to have something British and it was very much about the British experience.

May 10, 2011: The Daily: Young & Gifted

Young starlets are becoming blander and more interchangeable, but Hannah Murray, 21, is like no other.

Murray arrived at Shoreditch House, a private club in a hip corner of East London, with a book bag slung over her shoulder and wearing zero make-up — without agent or publicist. Murray, who burst onto TV at 17 as the effervescent Cassie in the smash-hit teen drama “Skins,” is fast becoming one of Britain’s rising stars. Even so, she remains grounded.

Despite the hit series, its crazed fans and several Hollywood offers, she has spent the past three years pursuing an English lit degree at Cambridge University. (Hence the bag — she was deep in revision for a Greek tragedy paper.)

With three new films in the pipeline, Murray said she relishes dramatic challenges and favors intelligent, risky roles over the standard 21-year-old fare. She cited Michelle Williams and Cate Blanchett as inspirations, in addition to British legends Judi Dench and Vanessa Redgrave. And who knows, with her talent and smarts, Murray just might follow in their footsteps.

April 21, 2011: Flavour Magazine Interview

Here’s an interview Hannah did from back in November with Flavour Magazine, but an interesting read nevertheless. Thanks to Nik for the link!

Hannah Murray is one of the nation’s most adored young actresses who first shot to fame as Cassie in Channel 4 drama Skins. With a sweet personality and cute smile she has brains to boot (she’s studying English at Queens College), and this actress proves there’s no excuse not to follow both your professional and academic passions.

Since the age of 17, Hannah’s been breaking the mould in the acting game. Now at 21, she talks about growing up inside her Skins character, through to her latest film Chatroom – a story that follows teenagers who meet online and encourage each other’s destructive behaviour.

For your first acting appearance in Skins, did you feel really nervous the first time you were on set?
Yes, the whole thing was completely unexpected for me. I was 17 when I started, so the fact that my character was the way she was – dippy and damaged – was a scary thing as well as because it was all so new to me.

Regarding the role of Cassie, arguably the most adored cast member by the majority of Skins fans, do you feel she was a test? Was there anything you’ve discovered about yourself growing up?
Yeah, I think I learnt loads because it was two years of my life and I grew up a lot along the way while doing it, not just because of acting, but also in general.

January 21, 2011: IndieLondon interview

This is interview is a bit old but still interesting to read. Thanks for the heads up, Nik!

Former Skins star Hannah Murray talks about some of the challenges of Chatroom and what she enjoyed about playing her downtrodden character. She also discusses why she generally stays away from things like Facebook and what it was like to work with Eva Green on her next project…

Q. What was the appeal of Chatroom for you?
Hannah Murray: I just thought it was a really cool script. I’d read the play first because when we first auditioned there wasn’t a full script yet, but I thought it was so clever and funny and the language was all really rich and complex. So, just from that I wanted to do it. But then from reading a few scenes and seeing how he managed to transfer that into… the play is just people sitting there talking to the audience. But he turned it into something really visual and cinematic and exciting. I thought the idea of representing the Internet the way that they were trying to do was something I’d never seen done before. I also really wanted to work with a talented young cast because I think Aaron, Imogen, Matt and Daniel are all amazing. To get to work with a group of young actors who are that strong is quite rare.

December 18, 2010: Hannah Murray talks about ‘Chatroom’

Hannah did another interview promoting her new movie Chatroom. Thanks Niki for the heads up.

Best known as Cassie from Skins, Hannah Murray stars in Chatroom alongside Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson. The film is directed by Hideo Nakata (The Ring) and focuses on five teenagers who meet in an int

Chatroom’s about to hit UK cinemas so can you tell me a bit about the movie?
It’s about a group of teenagers who go online because they have various dissatisfactions with their real lives. Mainly they kind of want excitement and they want friends and they’re all looking for something.

Unfortunately they’re taken advantage of by one member of their group, who’s a very manipulative and quite unpleasant boy, who’s got his own frustrations in life and controls other people.
